Jim Kerley

Jim Kerley is a retired college president who served in three institutions of higher learning in two different states, Florida and Kentucky.  He has served as a college teacher, undergraduate and graduate, supervised and directed future teachers and served as a dean of academics. He also served for over a year as president of two colleges and finally merging them into one comprehensive community and technical college with six different off-campus sites.  Dr. Kerley has guided one college from a community college to a state college that began offering baccalaureate degrees. He has started new campus sites, developed state of the art multiple million-dollar facilities that have served workforce needs and overall enhancement of academics.  He has refocused institutions and created a future-forward philosophy of leadership.  He has adamantly pushed for diversity of faculty, staff, and students, and pushed to make education accessible for all.  Throughout his career as a college president, he has listened to the community needs that have helped create programs to address needs of industry and manufacturing.  Kerley has been a strong proponent for the military, lobbying to build a new education facility at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and one institution recognized as a top twenty military-friendly institution in the United States. He was recognized in Florida for the Workforce Excellence Award in 2012, the only college or university president to be recognized for such an award for excellence achieved in strengthening our workforce.  Kerley received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Technological University in History/social sciences and secondary education, minor in business, his M.A.T degree from The Citadel with a major in history, his doctorate from Florida State University with a major in educational leadership and administration.  He has attended Harvard summer institutes focusing of creative thinking and fundraising, and other leadership institutes in Aspen, Colorado and other places focused on leadership.  He completed a one-year Leadership Kentucky program that focused on statewide issues and developing future leaders for the state.
